Did You Know?!: Fallen Stars

Celebrity deaths are this month's topic in the newest edition of "Did You Know" by Sales and Leasing Consultant Tim Hoyt.  The first six months of this year we have witnessed the loss of many notable people, from singers and actors to DJ's and comedians.  Many names are instantly recognizable, like Maria Von Trapp, the matriarch of the Trapp Family Singers who served as inspiration to the 1963 Broadway musical, "The Sound of Music," and some whose name have long faded from recent history.  In total, there were 26 deaths including the following famous individuals:
  • Phil Everly (74)- Singer, whose last performance was at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards
  • Jerry Coleman (89)- Baseball player for the New York Yankees
  • Russell Johnson (98)- Actor best known for his role as "The Professor" on "Gilligan's Island"
  • Pete Seeger (94)- Musician for the 1950's band The Weavers
  • Phillip Seymour Hoffman (46)- Actor who recently portrayed Plutarch Havensbee in the "Hunger Games"
  • Shirley Temple (85)- Actress of the beloved television show, "Shirley Temple."
  • Ralph Kiner (91)- Baseball player for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs, and the Cleveland Indians
  • Sid Caesar (91)- Comedian
  • Ralph Waite (85)- Actor best known for his role as John Walton, Sr. on the "The Waltons."
  • Harold Ramis (69)- Actor best known for his role as Egon Spengler in "Ghostbusters."
  • Ruby Dee (91)- Actress who was best known for co-starring in "A Raisin in the Sun" and "Do the Right Thing"
  • Bob Murray (66)- Local Weatherman for the Decatur based WAND-TV news station
  • David Brenner (78)- Comedian
  • Joe McGinniss (71)- Author of the 2010 book, "The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin"
  • Bob Huskins (71)- Actor who portrayed Eddie Valiant in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."
  • Jim Laube (81)- Game show host
  • Micky Rooney (93)- Actor who played roles in movies such as "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "The Black Stallion."
  • Chuck Noll (82)- Coach of Pittsburgh Steelers.
  • Rubin "Hurricane" Carter (76)- Boxer who was convicted of murder and spent 20 years in prison
  • Don Zimmer (83)- Baseball player and coach who coached the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs.
  • Kevin Sharp (43)- Singer 
  • Ann B. (Alice) Davis (88)- Actress who portrayed the beloved housekeeper on the "Brady Bunch"
  • Eli Wallneh (98)- Actor whose long career included, "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" and "The Magnificent Seven"
  • Efrem Zimbalist Jr. (95)- Actor best known for his roles in the television series "77 Sunset Strip" and "The F.B.I."
  • Tony Gwynn (54)- Baseball player for the San Diego Padres who was nicknamed Mr. Padre 
  • Casey Kasem (82)- Radio DJ known for being the host of many radio countdowns including "American Top 40" 
All of the above celebrities have showcased their talent in many ways- from the TV screen to being heard by millions on the radio.  They may be gone now, but all will never be forgotten.
