Did You Know?!: Christmas Movies

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is coming and everyone at the dealership is in the holiday spirit. Sales and Leasing Consultant, Tim H., is enjoying the holiday season by watching a variety of Christmas movies. For your enjoyment, he has put together a short list of the top family friendly movies to watch.

---

Many people have a favorite Christmas movie that they enjoy watching every year. If your family is anything like mine, you probably even own these films so you can watch them whenever you want and you don't have to wait for them to show up on television with all the commercials. For almost 80 years we have had many Holiday movie favorites. Let's kick up the Christmas cheer by sharing a list of some of my favorites:
  • Holiday Inn (1942)
  • Meet Me In St. Louis (1944)
  • Miracle On 34th Street (1947 & 1994)
  • Holiday Affair (1949 & 1997)
  • White Christmas (1954)
  • Christmas In Connecticut (1945 & 1992)
  • It's A Wonderful Life (1946)
  • The Bells Of St. Mary's (1945)
  • A Christmas Story (1983)
  • Christmas Vacation (1989)
  • Prancer (1989)
  • The Santa Clause (1994, plus two sequels)
  • Elf (2003)
Did you know that "A Christmas Carol" and "Scrooge" have had the most versions ever made? These versions were produced in 1938, 1951, 1970, 1984, and 1988.

Did you know that the "Home Alone" movies take place at Christmas time?

Did you know that in 2011, "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" ranked #3 in television ratings with 12.6 million views?

This goes to show that people still love to watch these family classics...what favorite movie will you be enjoying with your family this Holiday season?

Did You Know?: The Lincoln/Kennedy Coincidences

It's time for the November edition of "Did You Know" with Sales and Leasing Consultant, Tim Hoyt. This month, Tim pays tribute to two former Presidents by highlighting some of their similarities.
---

This November marks the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination. It's strange how people can remember exactly where they were when a tragedy took place. I [Tim] remember sitting in Louise Strange's first grade classroom. I will never forget Principal Richard Green coming in to our classroom to tell us about this tragedy. Caroline Kennedy and I both turned six years old that November.

Now, let's take a look  at some really strange coincidences between the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy (JFK).

  • Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846 and Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946
  • Lincoln was elected President in 1860 and Kennedy was elected President in 1960
  • Lincoln's successor, Andrew Johnson, was born in 1808; Kennedy's successor, Lyndon Johnson, was was born in 1908
  • Lincoln's killer, John Wilkes Booth, was born in 1839; Kennedy's killer, Lee Harvey Oswald, was born in 1939
  • The names "Lincoln" and "Kennedy" both contain seven letters
  • The names "Andrew Johnson" and "Lyndon Johnson" each contain 13 letters and have the same surname
  • The names "John Wilkes Booth" and "Lee Harvey Oswald" each contain 15 letters
  • Lincoln's Secretary was called "Kennedy" and Kennedy's Secretary was called "Lincoln"
  • Booth shot Lincoln in a theater and hid in a warehouse, while Oswald shoot Kennedy from a warehouse and hid in a theater
  • Lincoln and Kennedy were both killed on a Friday
  • Both were killed in the presence of their wives
  • Both were shot in the head
  • Both assassins were killed before being brought to trial
  • Lincoln and Kennedy were both supporters of Civil Rights
  • Booth and Oswald were both southerners who favored alternative ideas
  • Lincoln and Kennedy both lost a son in office: Willie Lincoln in 1862 and Patrick Kennedy in 1963
---

Did you know that November marks the one year anniversary of Tim's column?

Stay tuned for next month's edition...

AutoRewards = Savings!

How does the AutoRewards program save our customers money?
Recently, a local customer lost his keys during a preseason Packers football game in Green Bay. The staff at Lambeau Field noticed the Baum AutoRewards tag, dropped the keys off at FedEx, and within a couple of days our customer was able to pick them up at the dealership. This eliminated the need to purchase a new key fob and ultimately saved our customer $200. Saving money = happy customers!

Thank you to the staff at Lambeau field for returning the keys so quickly!

Did You Know?: Back To School

August is here and that means a new school year is just around the corner (seriously, where did the summer go?!). In this month's edition of "Did You Know?!" Sales and Leasing Consultant, Tim Hoyt, reminisces on his early education.

As I watch the new grade school grow on Illini Drive, it's easy to reflect on my past grade school days...

Did you know?
  • My generation was the last group that received the first seven years of education (Kindergarten-sixth) at one location?
  • I attended Lincoln Grade School
  • When I started fourth grade, the school district was just beginning to run bus services to all four grade schools
After talking to my long time customer, Jerry Ryan, I started thinking about how the school district has evolved over the years. Jerry was kind enough to provide me with a list of the various DeWitt County grade schools in 1935 broken down by township. Here's how it looked:

Waynesville: 1.) Prairie Creek  2.) Waynesville  3.) Maple Grove  4.) Fairview  5.) Columbia  6.) Rock Creek
Wapella: 1.) Alexander  2.) Burr Oak  3.) Harrold Point  4.) Liberty  5.) Progress  6.) Wapella
Wilson:  1.) Enterprise  2.) Mooreville  3.) Imperial  4.) Heidelberg  5.) Brittin  6.) Cain
Rutledge:  1.) Fuller  2.) Vance  3.)Turner  4.) Woods  5.) Parnell
Santa Anna:  1.) Smith  2.) Weedman  3.) Greenleaf  4.) Black  5.) Bracken  6.) Glendale  7.) Farmer City
DeWitt:  1.) DeWitt  2.) Rosencrans  3.)Yankeetown  4.) Bosserman  5.) Spring Hill  6.) Swigart  7.) Excelsior
Harp:  1.) Thorp  2.) Davenport  3.) Swisher  4.) Barngrover  5.) Birkbeck  6.) Walnut Grove  7.) Excelsior  8.) Charter Oak  9.) Eureka
Clintonia:  1.) Dewey  2.) Spidel  3.) Clinton  4.) Hampleman  5.) Prairie Center
Barnett:  1.) West Hull  2.) Elm Grove  3.) Brown  4.) Tabor  5.) West Central  6.) Green Valley  7.) Midland City  8.) Hallsville  9.) Bowles
Tunbridge:  1.) Wallace  2.) Tunbridge  3.) Old Hallsville  4.) Kenney  5.) Kirby  6.) Union  7.) Round Top  8.) Trowbridge  9.) Stoutenborough
Texas:  1.) Burns  2.) Hill  3.) Science Hill  4.) Texas  5.) Lane Ospur  6.) Blue  7.) Randall  8.) Willow HIll
Creek: 1.) Lawerence Weldon  2.) Smallwood  3.) Miller  4.) Lane  5.) Central  6.) Cox  7.) White Pigeon  8.) Union  9.) Shiloh
Nixon:  1.) Twist  2.) Reed  3.) Wantwood  4.) Weldon  5.) Champion  6.) Prairie View  7.) Lincoln

Can you believe how much things have changed?!
