Did You Know?: The Automotive Evolution

It's time for the May edition of "Did You Know?" Sales and Leasing Consultant, Tim Hoyt, has gone back into the archives to compile a list of facts about a few Chevrolet and Buick models over the past 56 years.

The following information shows how vehicle engines and pricing have changed over time:

  • 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, loaded with a 283 motor pushing 250 HP (total weight of 3,270 lbs) = $2,400
  • 1961 Chevrolet Corvette, loaded with a 283 motor pushing up to 315 HP (total weight of 2,905 lbs) = $3,934
  • 1963 Buick Rivera, the first edition, with a 401 motor and 325 HP (total weight of 4,064 lbs) = $4,333
  • 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Sport with a 307 motor and 200 HP (total weight of 3,040 lbs) = $4,134
  • 1971 Chevrolet Caprice with a 121.5 wheelbase, 400 motor with 255 HP (total weight of 4,040 lbs) = $4,134
  • 2013 Chevrolet Impala, the 10th generation model with a 2.5L 4 cyl. engine and 196 HP = $27,535 (LS base model).

A little personal fact: Three students from Tim's graduating class, Steve Baum, Rich Leas and Steve Wilson, all had fathers who owned automotive dealerships in Clinton! Steve Baum, who passed away unexpectedly 10 years ago, was in charge of ordering vehicles for our dealership.

We hope you enjoyed this small dose of information...Check back for next month's edition!
